The French Minister of Industry, Christian Estrosi, together with the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), the French Strategic Investment Fund (FSI), and the alliance of Renault and Nissan have agreed to create at the Flins plant, France, batteries for electric cars for any car brand.

The Flins plant will be producing in 2012 the Zoé Ze electric prototype we are talking about today. Renault, Nissan and the CEA will put into the company the technology needed to develop car batteries, and the FSI will provide a fund of 125 million euros, which will be added to what the European Investment Bank (EIB) will contribute to complete the debt of 280 million euros.

It is planned that by 2012 the batteries will be in production and that the annual production will reach around 100,000 units. One of the important aspects of this plant and of the technology developed in it is that it will focus not only on manufacturing the batteries but also on recycling them, so that solid waste will also end up here.

The batteries manufactured in Flins can be used by any car brand, so that if the manufacturing and quality are good, they will have batteries not only to fit in the Twizy and the Zoé Ze, which are the first destinations for them, but also to export them to the other brands interested in electric vehicles, which are becoming more and more numerous.
