The Renault Twingo is updated to be more sophisticated and offer greater personalisation
With almost five years on the market in its current generation, the Renault Twingo starts 2019 with a restyle that changes its aesthetics and incorporates new technologies

It could be said that one of the kings of the A-segment is the Renault Twingo, a city car that was launched back in 1992 and, from the moment it reached dealerships, became a sales success, also making its first generation one of the longest-lived until it was renewed in 2007. The market currently offers the third generation, which arrived in 2014 and now faces 2019 with a much-desired renewal.
Renewed exterior styling for greater quality
The new Renault Twingo will continue to have restrained dimensions, not exceeding 3.61 metres in length, which makes it the ideal partner for getting around and parking in the city, as well as enjoying a generous turning circle thanks to its rear-engine layout. The main novelties in this restyle of the Twingo centre on renewed styling, greater personalisation options and new additions in the technology section.

Looking at the exterior, the front changes substantially with a new bumper that moves away from plastics in favour of a larger painted surface, also redesigned at the bottom and incorporating side air intakes to give a sense of greater width. The light cluster has also been modified to include LED daytime running lights and C-shaped indicators, as well as a grille featuring a chrome strip for a more distinguished touch.
At the rear, changes follow the same line, with a newly designed bumper that gives a better look thanks to the abandonment of plastics, incorporating instead more painted area accented by subtle chrome lines. The light cluster is also modified, adopting the C-shaped light signature, and finally a practical handle has been added to open the boot just below the rear windscreen wiper. The final touch comes from the eight colours available for the bodywork, of which Mango Yellow and Quartz White are new.

The new Renault Twingo will be available in three trim levels, the top one logically being the most interesting as it adds features such as tinted glass, side protections in body colour, chrome details and 15-inch wheels in two available designs. Beyond the trim levels, the new Twingo allows a greater touch of personalisation thanks to the Colour Pack, which lets you add a contrasting colour to various bodywork elements or to 16-inch wheels in two other exclusive designs.
Subtle changes to the interior and new technologies
For the interior, design changes have also been prepared that mainly affect its functionality: the centre console now houses two USB sockets, a jack socket, the Start&Stop button and the speed limiter control, as well as a new recess that can serve as a cup holder or to place your smartphone. Quality has also been addressed, with a glovebox lock fitted on every trim level and a new, more rigid rear tray.

In terms of trim, the interior also lets you personalise it to your taste, although this is only possible on the intermediate and top trim levels. As on the exterior, you can change parts such as the dashboard strip, the air vent surrounds, the steering wheel and the gear lever surround in black, red or yellow, as well as choosing from a selection of gear knobs. In addition, the upholstery can be chosen in Dark or Light colour, and the colour of the upholstery pattern itself can also be changed.
Technologically, the new Renault Twingo varies its equipment depending on the trim: for example, the second trim level includes manual air conditioning and a radio compatible with the R&Go app, while the top trim includes the new EASY LINK multimedia system with a 7-inch screen. Either way, the new Twingo has upped its game in connectivity: beyond the two multimedia systems, Renault also allows you to include the EASY CONNECT connected services.
The mechanical options come down to two petrol engines

In the engine line-up, Renault has reserved two petrol engines for the new Twingo, both complying with the Euro 6D emissions standard. This range consists entirely of three-cylinder petrol units: the most basic is the SCe 75 CV and the most powerful is the TCe 95 CV, which now gains 5 CV and can be chosen with a five-speed manual gearbox or the six-speed EDC automatic.
Both engines are characterised by offering smooth, comfortable and light driving, which gains in feel if you opt for the TCe 95 with the EDC dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which performs smooth gear changes and provides greater comfort when driving through congested cities.
