The replacement for the Fiat Bravo will be manufactured in Turkey starting in 2016

Tofaş, the company formed by the joint venture that has Fiat in Turkey, announced yesterday that it will invest one billion dollars (more than 800 million euros at the current exchange rate) in the production of a range of compact models starting in 2016. This investment adds to the one Tofaş announced last year of 520 million dollars, which only involved the production of a new vehicle at its Bursa facilities.

To that car, a saloon that will allow the Fiat Linea to be retired and of which the company intends to build 580,000 units per year, is now added a compact and an estate in the C segment, according to what Automotive News Europe has learned from its sources. These products will be built on the SUSW platform (Small US Wide), which models such as the Fiat 500X or the Jeep Renegade already use.

The first will take on the task of replacing the Bravo, whose production at the Italian Cassino plant stopped last July, and the second will fill the gap left by the Stilo Multiwagon in 2008. Tofaş states in the statement issued yesterday that a combined total of 700,000 vehicles per year will be manufactured between these two models.

Of those nearly 1,300,000 cars that will leave the production center, most will be exported to other markets. Tofaş’s new investment plan will run for seven years, from 2016 to 2023. The Turkish company says it is already finalizing, together with Fiat, the details of the investment and marketing conditions in Western Europe.
