It has been six decades since the SEAT 600 went on sale, the car that put a car in every home in Spain. Over the years, the most popular model ever to come off a Spanish production line has become a benchmark for many drivers. Although it has been several decades since they were commonly seen on the roads, apart from classic car gatherings and thanks to owners who have looked after and cherished their cars.

Now, to celebrate 60 years of existence, a 600 D convertible has been restored. It required immense work to get back on the road, with all its components renewed, showing that 60 years is nothing. Bringing this car into the 21st century took 1,500 hours of work, with 30 people dedicated to restoring the car and leaving it immaculate.

The car in question was manufactured in 1965 and bought by a private owner. For 25 years it stayed in the garage and was never once taken out on the road. This left the parts in quite poor condition, making it necessary to replace more than 1,000 of them. The car was dismantled, and many parts had to be restored, as they could not even be found on the used parts market. Fortunately, both the steering wheel and the horn are original and retain the appearance the car had when it was new.

The bodywork has received 15 litres of blue-grey paint, and the interior is upholstered in fabric reminiscent of the “houndstooth” pattern in black and white, which evokes past times and complements the restored car’s look. Among the original parts found on this 600 D convertible is the original soft top, which has been restored down to the smallest detail.

The car will be displayed at the Barcelona Motor Show, where it will be on show throughout the event, to commemorate 60 years since its first appearance and the sales success that saw 800,000 units built by 1973, when production ended. Do you remember travelling in one of them?
