The SEAT Ateca finally reveals its look...at last!

Ateca 1

A few days ago we told you about what will be the first SUV from SEAT. At that time little was known, except that its look would be similar to that of the 20v20 concept.

In addition, speculation began about its commercial name. We -and many others- bet on the name “Ateca”, which now seems set to become a reality.

All alarms went off after a leak of an image of the infotainment system of the new Spanish model, in which a small figure of what seemed to be the bodywork of an SUV could be glimpsed. It seems that the leak was completely genuine, since the first official images of the car leave no room for doubt.

The first images of the Ateca were not released by the brand, but have once again come from a leak. Either way, it was an open secret that sooner or later the look of the Ateca would be revealed, especially with less than a month to go until the Geneva Motor Show, where it will be officially presented.

The exterior look of the Ateca leaves little to the imagination. Easily recognizable as a SEAT, it is obvious that in this case form is subordinated to function, and the appealing design of the 20v20 concept has had to undergo numerous modifications to make it to production.

However, the Ateca offers muscular lines that are very pleasing to the eye. It immediately recalls a raised-up Leon, although certain nuances similar to those of the new generation Tiguan can also be picked out. As we all know, design is largely subjective…

There is no doubt about the interior, since the cabin is practically a copy of the Leon’s. Some changes have been introduced, such as a slightly wider centre console, as well as door panels and seats with a specific design. Either way, anyone who has driven a Leon of the current generation will not take even 2 minutes to feel perfectly at home.

The mechanical range will be very similar to that of the VW Tiguan, with which it shares the MQB platform

The build quality is expected to be at least on the same level as the Leon’s, since, as we all know, the Ateca will also be built on the Group’s MQB modular platformVolkswagen, already used by models such as the SEAT Leon itself or the VW Tiguan, a model that is practically the Ateca’s “first cousin”.

Mechanically it shares all engines with the Tiguan, although it will not have all the power options available on the Volkswagen model. Thus, in petrol, it will have a 1.0 TSI engine of 115 CV and the well-known 1.4 TSI ACT of 150 CV. In diesel, the range will include the traditional 1.6 TDI of 110 CV and the well-known 2.0 TDI of 150 and 184 CV. Of course, four-wheel drive will not be missing, which will also feature several driving modes controlled by a circular dial that can be seen behind the gear lever.
