Is that your parking space, Audi Q2? We'll find out soon

Audi 1

The Q family from Audi is, by now, one of the most successful and popular in the four-ring manufacturer’s range.

However, the people at Audi are not content with what they have, and they already have ready the one that will be the fourth member of the family, which will arrive shortly to complete the range from below.

The Q range from Audi was launched in 2005 with the arrival of the Q7, a large SUV developed in collaboration with Volkswagen and Porsche. It immediately became a real sales success thanks to a very attractive design and outstanding build quality. In fact, the first generation of the Q7 has been one of the longest-lasting models in the Audi range, selling until 2015, going through a series of restyles that reinforced its brand image.

Later came more models, each one smaller, the Q5 and Q3. All the models have enjoyed great success amid a huge SUV craze in the global car market. However, user needs change, and there is an increasing demand for greater efficiency without the size needing to be excessively large.

Audi 2

That is why Audi has spent years developing a new Q model, which will possibly be called the Q2. We are therefore talking about the smallest model in the range, a conclusion we draw from an image posted on Audi’s official Facebook page, showing a parking lot with the three Q models parked, leaving only one free space on the left, suggesting a smaller model.

Under the label “soon” – coming soon – Audi is starting to make our mouths water with this new model, the fourth member of the Q range, which will in all likelihood be built on the modular MQB platform, making it a close cousin of models such as the new Tiguan and the SEAT Ateca, which we discussed just yesterday and which you can read about here.

The new Q2 will be built on the MQB platform, just like models such as the VW Tiguan or SEAT Ateca

The new Q2 will offer, just like its siblings the Q3 and Q5, turbocharged inline four-cylinder engines, as well as manual and automatic dual-clutch transmissions. The bulk of the range is expected to correspond to front-wheel-drive versions, although the opportunity will not be missed to offer the already famous quattro all-wheel-drive system which, on this model, will not be permanent, but will instead be a non-permanent system using a Haldex clutch.

Its presentation is scheduled for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, an event that will take place in just one month, and which Highmotor will attend to tell you everything firsthand.
