Insignia Opel Sedans Range / versions Salón de Frankfurt
The second generation of the Opel Insignia will arrive in 2017

The sales success that Opel developed for the D-segment compact saloons has been on the market since 2008, with a slight facelift applied two years ago to keep it up to date. The competitive D-segment is crowded with the most premium German brands, which absorb most of the sales share, so a second-generation Insignia must make its appearance shortly if it does not want rivals that have launched more novel products to affect its sales.
But, according to CAR magazine, the first-generation Opel Insignia will still be on the market for a couple of years more, at least. That is because the new Insignia is expected to make its debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. For the moment the details are somewhat scarce, but everything points to its design cues being based on the Monza Concept, a prototype that would guide the brand’s future steps and that was presented at the 2013 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

As for the overall size of the second-generation Opel Insignia, it will be larger than the current model, especially in length and wheelbase, so the vehicle’s weight is expected to increase considerably. However, considering that the new Astra has managed to shed a total of 200 kilograms, how many could the Insignia lose with a good engineering diet?
As for body styles, according to CAR magazine, the Insignia will lose the four-door option (which it currently offers) and will be offered only as a five-door and a Sport Tourer estate. Considering this basic information, we can assume that the new Insignia could compete with the Skoda Superb, although with a greater length and wheelbase, it will bring a considerable increase in legroom and cargo space.
