The second generation of the Porsche Cayenne GTS arrives in 2012

The Beijing Motor Show will be the stage for the unveiling of the second generation of the Porsche Cayenne GTS. With this new model, which will arrive in Spain next July, the German firm aims to fill the gap between the Cayenne S and the Turbo, which is why it has increased the power curve and given the car more sporty lines.

As we said, to keep its sportier lines it will use the grille of the Cayenne Turbo. It will also feature window surrounds in a glossy black finish. The only difference at the rear compared with the current model is that it will carry a two-part spoiler.

It will come fitted as standard with the PASM system, Active Suspension Management, which allows the stiffness of the suspension to be varied. Compared with the Cayenne S, ground clearance is reduced by 24 millimetres. Inside, there is leather upholstery with Alcantara details and electronically adjustable seats with eight-way adjustment, for a more sporty fit.

15 hp more than the first generation

Performance has also been improved. It will use the same engine block as the Cayenne S but deliver a power output of 420 CV, 15 CV more than the previous generation. This 4.8-litre V8 will be paired with an eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox. It will go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reach 160 km/h in 13.3. Top speed will be 261 km/h and it will consume around 10.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

With this SUV, the strategy of Porsche is quite clear: to move away from dirt tracks and take on the BMW X6 head to head. But first it will have to carve out a space in a complicated market. In Spain, for example, it will cost 102,876 euros.
