Throughout the summer, smart will put additional combinations of the twinamic dual-clutch gearbox on sale with the engines of the fortwo and forfour. Until now, only the smaller of the two models had it, and exclusively paired with the 71 hp naturally aspirated petrol engine that it shares with the Renault Twingo (the French brand calls it SCe 70).

The twinamic transmission can be ordered within a few weeks with the 90 hp turbocharged engine and 135 Nm of peak torque in the fortwo, and with the 71 hp engine and 91 Nm of torque in the forfour. With this configuration, the two-seater accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds (10.7 with the manual gearbox), reaches a top speed of 155 km/h and consumes 4.1 l/100 km on the combined cycle (one tenth less than with the other gearbox).

The forfour twinamic does 0 to 100 km/h in 16.9 seconds, can travel at speeds of up to 151 km/h and uses 4.2 l/100 km. Unlike the fortwo, this model shows no differences in these figures compared with the values obtainable with the five-speed manual transmission.

The twinamic gearbox is a very scarce feature in the fortwo and forfour’s vehicle category. The brand also sells an optional package called Sport that allows the manual mode of the transmission to be controlled through controls located on the steering wheel.

The prices announced for Germany reflect a surcharge of 1,275 euros for the fortwo twinamic over the same engine with manual gearbox, and 1,425 euros for the forfour. In Spain, the only existing reference is still the 71 hp fortwo twinamic, which costs 980 euros more than the manual fortwo with that engine.

The manufacturer will introduce other changes in certain trim levels. The prime will include as standard from the next season the interior in black and grey, while this trim will be added as an option on the passion.
