The SUV as strong as a bear: the Škoda Kodiaq arrives

Nature is often the basis on which many vehicle designs are built. In the case of the latest SUV presented by Škoda, the inspiration came from a bear from the Alaska region. The car is called Kodiaq and its reference is the Kodiak bear, which lives on the island of the same name located off the south coast of the US state.

It is not the only thing the Czech company has taken as a reference, since in addition to the name, the spelling used draws on the way the natives of that island, the Alutiiq, speak, who use the ending “q” to name animals. But what do we know about Skoda’s first approach to the SUV segment?

Well, for now, very little. We know that it will arrive during the second half of the year and that it will have a length of 4.7 metres. It will have seating for seven people and is designed to tackle the most rugged terrain with ease, as well as offering the comfort its occupants deserve, according to the brand.

In the image we can see nothing more than the silhouette of the vehicle covered with a sheet in the green colour that defines the brand. The brand has made an effort to draw comparisons with the bear on which it is based, a very familiar species that has a very robust and powerful appearance. In this same spirit they also link the “Simply Clever” systems that the brand installs in its cars.

The debut will come in the second half of the year, as we have said, and that is when they will reveal the full look of the car and its technical specifications. We must not forget the launch date either, which is set for early 2017. In the meantime, we will have to make do with this small preview and be a little patient.
