The Tata Nano would receive a bigger engine for 2014

The cheapest car in the world, the Tata Nano, has sales in India that are far from spectacular, and it is not even (yet) sold in Europe. Still, the Nano never stops making news. And Tata Motors is set to give a bit more vitality to the car that “costs the same as a sofa”, as TopGear once described it.
It is not known whether Tata plans to redesign the Nano for the future, but at least for 2014 we already know it will get a change of engine. From the current 624 cc engine, which gained 3 horsepower earlier this year, the Nano will move to a new 800 cc engine for 2014.
The new engine would not entirely replace the old unit, since the alternative would be to keep selling the 0.6-litre engine as a base version of the model. This would mean the 0.8-litre would go into a somewhat more upscale version with a higher sale price in the Indian market.
And, as we said at the beginning, it seems sales are not keeping up with the small Nano; in November around 3,500 units were reportedly sold, against an estimate of 10,000. To make the offer more attractive, Tata is also reportedly considering a diesel option, also of 800 cc.
