The Tesla Model 3 makes history by becoming the best-selling vehicle in Europe

For the first time in history, an electric vehicle has taken the top spot in the ranking of best-selling models in the Old Continent. The reason? The best-selling model from the brand of South African magnate Elon Musk, the Tesla Model 3.

In addition, the Model 3 has also become the first model in history manufactured outside the European continent to take the top spot in the ranking, making it a historic double for the automotive industry and a fantastic achievement for the North American brand.

At the head of success

Thanks to data provided by the consultancy JATO, we know that a total of 24,591 units of the Tesla Model 3 were registered during September, beating tough generalist rivals such as the Renault Clio, which holds second place in the ranking with 18,264 units, the popular Dacia Sandero, third in the ranking with 17,988 units, or the Volkswagen Golf, which takes fourth place with 17,507 units registered.

Given these figures, this car’s achievement is quite remarkable, since let us not forget that its price (from 47,970 euros in Spain) is far higher than that of the rivals below it on this list, specifically more than triple that of the Clio and almost five times that of the Sandero.

A wide gap

The difference in registrations between the Model 3 and the second best-selling electric vehicle in Europe amounts to 15,586 units. And as it happens, the second electric model with the highest number of registrations is the new Tesla Model Y, sibling of our protagonist.

Continuing down the list, the gap narrows, as the Volkswagen ID.3 is hot on the heels of the Model Y with 8,302 units registered, 624 units fewer.

Behind these three occupants of the podium, we have the veteran Renault Zoe in fourth place (6,580 units), the Skoda Enyaq iV in fifth place (5,924 units), and the Fiat 500, ID.4, Peugeot 208 and Dacia Spring in that order, closing this list of the top 10 electrified models with the most registrations in Europe during last September.

Reaping success

Alongside all of this, Tesla has reached a stock market value of one trillion dollars following the massive purchase of 100,000 Model 3s by the car rental company Hertz, so Elon Musk certainly has no reason to complain about the results, as they are truly excellent.
