The third generation of the BMW X6 has been unveiled, with a design full of personality and commanding presence
The new BMW X6 arrives in its third generation with a more imposing and aggressive look, together with powerful V8 engines for the sportier versions

BMW continues its work of renewing and updating its SUV range, and now it is the turn of another member, one we could consider the first SUV to reach the market almost ten years ago with coupé-style lines: the BMW X6. The third generation is born with new lines that resemble those of its new SUV siblings, especially the X5, now with a equally imposing look that gives it great personality.
The new BMW X6 is now larger in every sense: it grows 26 mm in length to a total of 4,935 mm, is 15 mm wider, has 44 mm more track width, and its wheelbase increases by 42 mm compared with its predecessor; the centre of gravity is also now lower. These greater proportions further accentuate its new design, in which the oversized kidney grilles at the front take on a prominent role, even more so if we opt for the extra lighting that illuminates them when opening and locking the car or while driving.

The new grille has also required a change in the look of its light units, now more aggressive, with headlights that are LED as standard or that can be upgraded to the optional adaptive BMW Laserlight headlights. The front bumper has also been redesigned, eliminating the characteristic fog lights and housing LED daytime running lights at its outer edges, next to the side air intakes. On the sides, the Air Breathers are now painted in the body colour and, for the wheels, there is a wide selection of designs up to 22 inches in size.
At the rear we find the characteristic coupé silhouette of the BMW X6, supported by carefully crafted, powerful lines that are certainly accentuated by the new narrower design given to the rear light units. The tailgate remains in an elevated position but blends perfectly with the new rear bumper, which features two large diffuser sections for the exhaust outlets, concealing the twin exhaust tailpipes at each end.

From its launch, the new BMW X6 will be offered in two trim levels: xLine and M Sport. The xLine trim focuses on highlighting the lines of the BMW X6 with several chrome elements with a pearl effect, and also disguises the lower protections, with the front in body colour and the rear in matt black. Meanwhile, the M Sport trim seeks to emphasise the sporting character of the BMW X6 with high-gloss black elements, together with the optional M Performance carbon-fibre parts available from December, as well as new mechanical features such as adaptive M suspension and M Sport brakes with blue calipers.
The interior of the new BMW X6 keeps its essence, but its design is clearly different, with much more modern lines and a large amount of technological equipment that can be expanded, as always, with the long list of options. As is usual for the brand, high-quality materials are present: the upholstery is standard Vernasca leather, the sport seats also included as standard are electrically adjustable and heated, and there are new specific cushioning for this model on the centre console, as well as special door handles.
As with the exterior, depending on the trim chosen, the cabin atmosphere differs. With the M Sport trim
, the sportiness of the BMW X6 is supported by the M steering wheel, the black roof lining and aluminium inserts, which can optionally be carbon fibre. With the xLine trim, we can have a more personal X6, more to our taste, since BMW allows us to use, for this trim, the options available in BMW Individual. Naturally, all the standard equipment can be expanded with the optional equipment list, although you will certainly need a well-filled wallet.
From its launch, the new BMW X6 will be available with two petrol and two diesel engines. The smaller variants will be powered by six-cylinder engines for the xDrive40i and the xDrive30d, both linked to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox; while the more powerful variants will be tuned by the M division, using V8 engines for the diesel M50d and also for the petrol M50i, the latter with an announced output of 530 CV and a torque figure of 750 Nm; these last two engines also use the same Steptronic gearbox.
