The Toyota RAV4 is the favourite car in Japan
This is what the jury of the Car of the Year award in Japan has decreed, which, for this year, has placed the Toyota RAV4 in first position
With up to 10 candidates vying for the Car of the Year in Japan award, the 60 members of the jury have had to evaluate the pros and cons of the candidates.
A group where European and Japanese vehicles have fought to take first place at the Japan Car of the Year 2019, and of which the five cars that have achieved the best scores have been ranked as follows:
1. Toyota RAV4
By collecting as many as 436 votes, the new Toyota RAV4 is the Car of the Year 2019 in Japan. The new generation of this popular crossover is not only one of the reference models for the local brand but also, in the opinion of the 60 automotive experts, is the best car presented this year.
2. Mazda Mazda3
The new Mazda3, in its compact sedan version, has been recognised as one of the best productions and, with 328 votes, has managed to climb to second place in the JCOTY.
3. BMW 3 Series
The new BMW 3 Series family will not be the Car of the Year in Japan, but it is the first foreign car ranked among the 10 best-rated cars by Japanese specialists, thanks to adding up 290 votes.
4. Toyota Corolla
The new and versatile Toyota Corolla range just missed out on the podium. Even so, we were very impressed during the test of the different versions of the Toyota Corolla family, its capacity to offer bodies for almost every taste.
5. Jaguar I-Pace
The first electric car from Jaguar not only won the Car of the Year 2019 award but also replicates its success in the Japanese version.
Emotional Award: Jeep Wrangler
A special mention also goes to a car we greatly enjoyed during its test, the Jeep Wrangler which, after more than a decade, showed that as the new generation evolved technologically, it improved its off-road capabilities while maintaining the adventurous and challenging essence it has always had.
