The upcoming Suzuki Jimny will keep its current concept as a vehicle

In an era when models traditionally associated with a particular type of vehicle are being turned into SUVs to keep up with new trends, it is reassuring to hear that others are holding on to their original philosophy. Cases such as the Land Rover Defender or the Mercedes-Benz G-Class belong to that category. We can now add the small Suzuki Jimny to it, which will also not undergo the transformation into an urban crossover.
This has been confirmed by the head of sales for the brand’s British division, Dale Wyatt, speaking to Top Gear. “(The next generation) Will follow the same formula. When people see it, they will all know it’s a Suzuki Jimny,” Wyatt said. It may not offer great luxuries, and there are better products for driving on tarmac. However, outside of it there are few products of its size that are more capable, which is precisely what its customers are looking for.
The current generation hands full control of the vehicle over to the driver, but the next one, according to Wyatt, will include certain driving aids that have become essential nowadays. This additional equipment will allow less experienced off-road drivers to make the most of the Jimny’s potential with greater confidence.
Top Gear predicts that the new model will be unveiled at a motor show in 2016, while its commercial launch will take place in 2017. In any case, lovers of pure off-road vehicles will be glad to know that the Jimny will not suffer the same fate as the new Vitara.
