The national debut of the new Opel Corsa took place at the Aragonese Centre for Industrial Design (CADI), since its international debut was at the Paris Motor Show last October. At this event, all the details of the fifth generation of the Corsa were presented in depth.

Since its birth back in 1982, the brand’s plant in Figueruelas has housed its production. In fact, that factory was built to assemble the Opel Corsa when it launched on the market. Of the 12.4 million Corsas sold worldwide, more than 9.6 million have rolled off the production lines in Zaragoza.

Within the Opel range, the Corsa plays a major role, as it accounts for around 26% of the brand’s total sales in Europe. It stands out above all for its refreshed, youthful design, the German engineering that Opel showcases in the advertising for its other models, its safety and most advanced driver-assistance systems, many of which are unique in this segment. More efficient engines and gearboxes with improved performance are also featured.

It will be available with three- and five-door bodies, which began production on 26 and 11 November respectively. Currently, the Corsa is the fourth best-selling model in the small car segment in Western Europe. In Spain, it holds second place in its segment, with a 11.5% share.

The new Corsa will not be the only major player in the Opel range. The Opel offensive will be reflected in the launch of 27 new models and 17 new engines by 2018. Proof of this will be the arrival next year of the new KARL, the entry-level model in the Opel range. The KARL, together with the new Corsa and the refreshed ADAM, will complete the brand’s small car offering.

Although the new Corsa is not yet on display in dealership showrooms and customers have not been able to see it in person, it has been very well received. More than 50,000 orders have recently been accepted at dealerships, but sales will not begin in most European countries until early next year.
