The Volkswagen e-up! now has a price: 26,900 euros

With a starting price of 26,900 euros, the e-up! is about to go on sale. It will feature an 82 CV electric motor that provides the performance needed to move nimbly around the city, its favourite terrain. Real-world range will exceed 100 km.

The greenest and cleanest variant of Volkswagen’s smallest city car now has a starting price. At a figure above 25,000 euros, its pricing will be in line with other electric cars on the market, such as the Nissan Leaf.

In this way, the e-up! will become the most expensive option within the model range by a wide margin, since its starting price will already be more than double that of the most basic version.

The e-up!, whose more specific details we will learn about at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, is equipped with a permanent-magnet asynchronous electric motor, which delivers a maximum output of 82 CV and 210 Nm of torque. Both figures will be available from 1 rpm, a characteristic common to other electric motors, which deliver their power instantly.

The electric motor will draw its energy from a lithium-ion battery system, which provides a theoretical range of 160 km. Although this figure is theoretical, we can expect the e-up! to exceed 100 km of real-world range.
Thanks to the compactness of its layout and the light weight of this model, the electric up! will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.4 seconds, with a top speed limited to 130 km/h.

One of the strong points of this type of vehicle is its cost per kilometre, which will sit at around 3 cents, meaning a cost of 3 euros for every 100 km. The e-up! will feature an automatic gearbox and equipment exclusive to this version, such as automatic climate control and LED daytime running lights.
