The Volkswagen ID.4 GTX will be the first sporty electric car from Volkswagen

Volkswagen has kept its promise by bringing forward the presentation of the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, the first electric sports vehicle that will usher in a new era.

Volkswagen has for some time been working intensively on its ID. family, which is increasingly integrated across the sector. First came the arrival of the ID.3, its firstborn, then the ID.4, and soon the ID.6 will arrive, although it is not known whether it will come to Europe. Furthermore, rumours have been circulating about the possibility of sporty versions of these models; well, they have finally become reality. The German brand has already confirmed the arrival of the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, a name that will be used to bring to life the most high-performance models in the ID. family.

Indeed, considering the potential of electric powertrains, it is not unreasonable to expect the most radical variants of the other ID. models from Volkswagen. For now, the Wolfsburg engineers have only confirmed the ID.4 GTX, but everything points to this name also being applied to the rest of the members of the lineup, both current and future.

Volkswagen has referred to some aspects of the performance and mechanical layout of the GTX, but much remains to be revealed. Besides its corresponding performance improvement, the Volkswagen ID.4 will also be subject to aesthetic changes that will reveal its sporty electric character, and these could be inspired by those already featured on the Golf GTI compared with the conventional versions of the Golf.

Whatever the case, these will establish a new path within the ID. range, to which the rest of the GTX models will be added. However, the real changes will be seen in the mechanical section, where two electric motors will be fitted with the aim of not only providing more power to the car, but also a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

In the case of the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, total output will rise to 300 CV, a figure that will also be combined with a considerable increase in torque. All of this will be complemented by more sporty and efficient tuning, as well as performance more typical of a sports-oriented vehicle.

The New Volkswagen Id.4

On 28 April, the Wolfsburg brand will officially present the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, a model whose production could begin in June. Whatever the case, the German firm is already ready to open the door to electric sports cars, and there may be room for even more radical versions bearing the R name. We will have to wait for its next moves.
