Jetta Volkswagen Hybrid Cars Curiosities
The Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid hits 299.842 km/h at Bonneville
Volkswagen modified a Jetta Hybrid to take it to the Bonneville salt flats and set the record for the fastest hybrid on that terrain.

For most car-loving mortals, and anyone who enjoys anything that moves on wheels with an engine, the mecca of motorsport lies in the more than 20 km of the old Nürburgring circuit, while for others it is the ancient salt flats of Bonneville in the United States.
Everyone has their own reasons, but in the second case it is simply the chance to drive at speeds unimaginable and impossible to reach on an ordinary road. That is why Volkswagen modified a 2013 Jetta Hybrid to become the fastest hybrid-powered vehicle to tackle those salt flats.

The average speed that earned them the record was 299.842 km/h, but on the outbound run, with a tailwind and favourable conditions, they managed to exceed 301 km/h. As is well known, in these cases an average of the outbound and return runs is required.
The main modifications this eco-friendly Jetta received focused on optimising its aerodynamics to the maximum, which is essential for this type of test, boosting both the 1.5-litre engine and the electric motor and, of course, reducing the weight of the whole car, while also fitting a roll cage for safety reasons.
According to Volkswagen, this small hybrid saloon offers excellent fuel consumption without giving up the driving pleasure that has always characterised this brand.
