Which is better? Porsche Boxster S or the 911

Car&Drive pits a Porsche Boxster S, equipped with every possible upgrade, against a base-spec 911 Carrera. Will the smaller car beat the brand’s most iconic model?

For Porsche the 911, in all its variants, has always been its flagship and no other model has ever been able to overshadow it. But in recent years, especially since the Cayman, the coupé version of the Boxster, appeared on the scene, many publications that have had the chance to drive both cars have questioned whether the smaller Porsche has been held back so as not to dethrone the king.

For this reason, Car&Drive magazine decided to pit a fully loaded Boxster S in performance terms against a base Porsche 911 Carrera, with no extras whatsoever. Both were fitted with manual gearboxes, as they should be. Head to head, who will win?

Both cars feature the new naturally aspirated 3.4-litre flat-six with direct injection, but while the Boxster produces 315 CV, the 911 offers 350 CV, an important difference. It should also be noted that the 911 weighs almost 100 kg more.

On paper, the king has every reason to keep his throne, but on a wet track like the one in the video below, with aids on the Boxster such as the Sport Chrono package, active suspension or a more sporty rear differential, it’s impossible to know who the final winner will be.

The answer is here. It’s worth watching, so as always, enjoy.
