Volkswagen is getting ready for the Detroit Show, a North American event of major importance for the German brand. Its commitment to the American market has grown rapidly in recent years, although American variants are not always what consumers on that side of the pond want.

On this occasion the brand will present the Volkswagen Passat Performance Concept, a concept that aims to raise the American Passat a little further and take it in a more sporty direction. The first thing Volkswagen has done is update the exterior look, now with 19-inch wheels, lowered suspension, bi-xenon headlights and twin exhaust outlets.

The interior has also been redesigned by the brand’s American arm, with imitation carbon inserts. The ubiquitous carbon has also been used on the exterior mirrors, and two-tone upholstery for the seats and door interiors.

But let’s move on to the more interesting part: the engine of this concept Passat. For the first time in the USA, the latest version of the well-known 1.8 TSI is being shown, the one currently fitted on our side of the Atlantic to models such as Audi, Seat, Volkswagen and Skoda. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox and, according to Motor Authority, is a variant that reaches 250 CV.
