The Volkswagen T-Cross is already a reality, and these are the rivals it will face

The Volkswagen T-Cross has just arrived and, despite boasting countless innovations, today we have analysed its most direct rivals within its segment.

The SUV segment is one of the most crowded among manufacturers, a trend confirmed by the wave of new models establishing themselves in our market, such as the new Volkswagen T-Cross. The entry-level SUV from Wolfsburg was unveiled this week, clearly aimed at a younger and more modern audience. To do so, the new T-Cross has entered the compact SUV category, a sector within this segment that other brands and their respective models have already explored, but are they up to the challenge posed by Volkswagen?

To find out, we are going to analyse the different vehicles that will go head-to-head with the newcomer Volkswagen T-Cross. Although we do not yet know the prices at which the latest offspring of the German firm will be offered, we can clearly make out the line-up of competitors it will face, and whose presence in the ring will further intensify this fierce battle being fought among compact SUVs.

SEAT Arona

Within the Volkswagen Group we find numerous brands, which also work in this segment that is enjoying such success in our market. One of the main reasons behind this good reputation is, without a doubt, the SEAT Arona. This SUV sits directly below the Ateca, with the aim of satisfying an audience looking for more compact dimensions within this segment.

El SEAT Arona también tendrá opción de motor TGI y se presentará en el Salón de París

The Arona is not only a direct rival to the new T-Cross, but also a very close relative with which it shares platform, technology and mechanics. In this way, the Spanish cousin of the new Volkswagen SUV has every chance of complicating matters, creating a strong dilemma among the potential buyers of both models.

With a starting price of 14,390 euros, the SEAT Arona positions itself as one of the compact SUVs with the best value for money on the market, creating fierce rivalry not only with members of its own Group, but also with other models seeking to enter this busy and intense segment.

Renault Captur

French brands have always stood out for their strong drive for innovation, which has led them to work in this segment. From Renault, we find a line-up of SUVs ready to take on anyone who dares to stand in their commercial path, and to defend their place in the market against the new Volkswagen T-Cross, we find the Captur.

This small compact SUV has been rolling off the production lines of the diamond-badged firm since 2013, more than enough time to dominate the segment it belongs to. Thanks to its fresh and bold design, Renault has managed to generate considerable sales volume, which has allowed the Captur to climb to the top of its category.

One of its most advantageous points is its price, as the French SUV is available from 13,374 euros, a very competitive figure that has allowed it to outperform other rivals that are not as affordable. With this in mind, it is another tough rival for the T-Cross, a model with which a fierce battle will be fought.

Peugeot 2008

Peugeot is one of the brands that has been working with compact SUVs the longest, a task it has carried out successfully thanks to the 2008. This model has been competing with the other members of its segment for five years and, although we could soon see a renewal, the French SUV also stands as a direct rival to the new Volkswagen offering.

The package the 2008 is able to offer its customers has allowed it to carve out a place among the best sellers in its sector. This ranking means the Peugeot SUV puts up a tough fight against its most direct rivals, a category into which the new T-Cross is introduced.

With a starting price of 17,040 euros, it sits above its compatriot and the SEAT Arona but, at the same time, it moves closer to the territory of the Volkswagen T-Cross, a vehicle that could be offered for similar figures, sparking an even more heated rivalry between both models.
