The Volkswagen Up! could receive a long-wheelbase body version

Volkswagen would offer a new version of the Volkswagen Up! with a longer wheelbase, to give more comfort to passengers in the rear seats. Apparently this new version would not reach Europe, or even China, where these vehicles are highly valued.

Volkswagen has been very active with the Up! over the last few months. During our visit to the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, we saw the Cross Up!, the rugged off-road variant of the Up! At the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Up! once again took centre stage with another variant, the e-Up!, the electric five-door version whose photo you have before you.

To continue with the variants that could come out of the Up!, it is now known that the German brand could be working on a variant with a longer wheelbase, which would only be offered in markets that are neither Europe nor China.

The stretched version would offer additional space for rear passengers, which will logically be improved by the addition of a longer body. But considering the places where this fifth variant of the Up! would be sold, it is inevitable to wonder why China is left out, when sales volume there is enormous and it is a market hungry for mid-to-large SUVs.

Manufacturers remain caught in a habit that is becoming repetitive: offering compact or city models, then launching crossover or larger versions (as is the case here), and then designing another model to fill the gap left by the first.
