The Volvo V40 D4 Drive-E: more efficient

Volvo introduces a diesel engine for its compact model, the V40. It is an update aimed at reducing consumption and emissions even further, helping to make the V40 one of the least polluting vehicles on the market.
This new combination will be seen at Geneva, just one week from now, where the Swedish brand plans to showcase much of its range.
The main novelty of the V40 is the arrival of the D4 Drive-E engine, which by right becomes one of the most attractive in its category.
It is a diesel engine that delivers 190 CV and 400 Nm, among the highest figures in the compact segment.
Combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox, it is capable of homologating an average consumption of just 3.3 litres per 100 km, one of the lowest figures on the market and on a par with, for example, much less powerful vehicles such as the VW Golf Bluemotion. Emissions are also very low, rated at just 85 gr/CO2 per kilometre.

This engine, which can also be paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, will be available both in the standard V40 and the V40 Cross Country, making it one of the most advanced options in the hotly contested compact segment.
This engine enjoys the latest technology, as demonstrated by systems such as i-ART, which can individually monitor the pressure in each injector, improving real-time response. The common-rail system pressure reaches 2,500 bar, which gives a good measure of this engine’s level, the first of a new family of ultra-efficient engines.
