The Volvo XC90 is ready for its market launch with the new SPA architecture
In just a few days the new Volvo XC90 will finally be visible at dealerships, after the first units of this SUV, which was born in 2002 and will be the first to use the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), are officially presented in Stockholm.

The new Volvo XC90, the first from the brand to use the Scalable Product Architecture, or SPA, is just two weeks away from going on sale in Stockholm. This means it uses the modular chassis technology that Volvo has been developing over the last few years and that will be transferred to other models in the near future.
Over four years, it has been developed at Volvo’s own facilities, and a investment of 11 billion dollars was required to transform the facilities and make them compatible with this technology. These improvements will help reduce manufacturing costs and allow engineers to work more freely on the design of new models.
With the SPA, Volvo engineers can introduce new elements into the cars, focusing on ease of driving and safety elements that are far more effective than those existing until now. In addition, they will be able to add more connectivity to the cars and make them wider, with more interior space.
This modular architecture will be the same for all models coming from the brand. That is, from the same base, different models can be created with different features, engines and driving elements.
This is demonstrated by the interior layout of the car, as it offers more space in the second and third rows, allowing two adults up to 1.70 metres tall to be comfortably seated in the third row, while the second-row seats can move to offer more room behind them.

The Volvo XC90 offers 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines in both petrol and diesel, although it also offers a hybrid, the highest in the range. Called the XC90 ‘Twin Engine’, it features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor that together deliver 400 CV, yet with CO2 emissions of just 60 g/km.
The exterior of this new Volvo XC90 will stand out and offer a different image for this SUV, which was born in 2002 and has been completely redesigned.
