There will be a long-wheelbase Suzuki Jimny that promises a lot more space

Suzuki continues to fight for the Suzuki Jimny, a model that will very soon debut a long-wheelbase version.

Suzuki revolutionised the market a few years ago with the launch of the Suzuki Jimny, a model that won everyone over. Its high demand quickly saturated the factories, causing order delays and, quite literally, people came to blows over them in the used-car market. Some time later, the Japanese firm was forced to withdraw it from the market because of emissions, but now it is returning with more strength than ever after being approved as a van. However, it is not the only surprise that Suzuki had in store.

And it is confirmed that there will be a Suzuki Jimny long-wheelbase, which can be seen in these images. For now, the Japanese company has not issued any statement on the matter, but given the progress of the test mules, we can consider that its arrival is imminent.

As far as styling goes, we continue to see the same characteristic design of the conventional Suzuki Jimny. The front may continue to be dominated either by a grille of vertical slats or by a clean front end where the name Suzuki can be read. The rear will feature a side-opening boot access and an exposed spare wheel, as well as rectangular tail lights in the purest off-road style.

But if all of this remains intact, where is the change? We find it precisely in the dimensions of the Japanese 4×4. We can now notice a longer wheelbase which, in turn, results in a longer and more voluminous body. Despite this considerable growth, the Jimny will continue to be offered as a three-door car, since the test mules do not show a rear seat row.

This situation is conditioned by the fact that the Jimny is now registered as a goods vehicle and not as a passenger vehicle. With all this, the Japanese 4×4 will gain cargo space, offering greater dimensions to carry as much gear as we like. As for its mechanics, it is expected to keep using the same naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder capable of delivering 102 CV and 130 Nm of torque, figures that will be matched with the Allgrip Pro all-wheel-drive system.

With this premise, Suzuki is getting ready to expand its family with a model that, despite its success, has caused a good number of headaches. Now we just have to wait to learn every last detail of the new Suzuki Jimny long-wheelbase, which is also expected to receive a warm welcome.
