These are the prices of the Tesla Model Y
We already know all the prices of the Tesla Model Y, so we have wondered what other alternatives we could buy for the same money
It was in March 2019 when we met the Tesla Model Y, the new compact SUV from the brand that will complete its crossover range, positioned below the Tesla Model X. This model is characterised by its coupé-style design and the possibility of fitting up to seven seats.
The company based in Palo Alto is well aware of the success the Tesla Model 3 has enjoyed, and it has been the best-selling electric car in Spain. So what better move than to capitalise on these good results and launch an SUV version of the model? Indeed, it shares the same platform and 75% of its components.
The model’s online configurator is already fully active, even though it will not enter production until 2021. In addition, you can already place a reservation by paying €2,000. So we are going to reveal all the prices of the Tesla Model Y.
Two types of drivetrain and three available options
Firstly, the company offers a choice of two configurations: with rear-wheel drive and with all-wheel drive (Dual Motor):
The first option is the Long Range variant with a range of 540 kilometres. In this case, it has 238 CV and manages 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 540 kilometres. This is the entry-level variant of the range, so the price starts at €58,000.
If we opt for all-wheel drive, we have a motor on each axle, and we can choose between two variants: the first is the Long Range, whose range is 505 kilometres and whose 351 CV improves performance over the previous model (0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 217 km/h). In this case the price starts at €62,000.
Finally, we have the top-of-the-range option called Performance. In this case, the range is 480 kilometres and performance improves greatly thanks to the power increase to 480 CV: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 241 km/h. Furthermore, sporty elements are added to the standard equipment in this version, such as 20-inch Performance wheels, Performance brakes, a carbon-fibre spoiler, lowered suspension and Track Mode. In this case, the price rises to €70,000.
This is its optional equipment
Of course, we have optional equipment items that can push up the price. To begin with, the Tesla Model Y has five body colours available, with pearl white as standard, and each of the other four costs €1,050.
There are also 19-inch wheels (+€1,600), the option of configuring the interior with white upholstery (+€1,050), a third row of seats (+€3,200) or the Autopilot (+€6,400).
What can you buy for the price of a Tesla Model Y?
At Top10motor we like to go one step further, so we have thought about what we could buy for the price of a Tesla Model Y. To compare, we have configured a unit with all the optional equipment.
So, we have chosen the Tesla Model Y Performance with all available accessories fitted. With this configuration, the price comes to €83,730, although according to the brand’s forecasts it could drop to €75,930 with discounts and incentives. So, what alternatives can we buy at this price?
Jaguar I Pace EV400
The first alternative we have considered is one of the pioneers in the luxury electric SUV segment. This is the Jaguar I Pace which, in its entry-level variant, costs €80,400.
In this one we already have all-wheel drive thanks to an electric motor on each axle, and 294 kW or 400 CV of power. It therefore has 696 Nm of torque, very good performance (0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h) and a range of 480 kilometres.
Mercedes-Benz EQC
It comes in a single variant in the range, so the standard equipment is very complete and its price stands at €77,425, making it a clear alternative to the Tesla Model Y. If you want to know more, don’t miss our road test of the Mercedes-Benz EQC.
Audi e-tron
The Audi e-tron was launched last year to enormous anticipation. It is larger than the Tesla Model Y, although unlike it, it does not offer the option of seven seats. Furthermore, the Sportback version has already been announced, with a coupé-style sloping roofline that targets our protagonist of today.
We have already been able to test the Audi e-tron and it surprised us with its dynamism. Like the two rivals we have proposed above, it has an electric motor on each axle, with which it is capable of producing 408 CV and a range of around 400 kilometres. The price in this case is €82,450.
Audi SQ5
If we put on a more racing disguise, we can opt for the sportiest variant of the brand’s compact SUV with the four rings: the Audi SQ5. In this new generation we have a 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 347 CV and is combined with a mild hybrid system so it enjoys all the advantages of the DGT Eco label.
Of course, it has all-wheel drive and a motor torque of no less than 700 Nm. In addition, it does 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and reaches a self-limited top speed of 250 km/h. Moreover, we are lucky, or unlucky, enough that it can refuel at any petrol station, so it is much more advisable for a long journey than the electric rivals.
BMW X3 M40i
Another alternative that has little to do with the Tesla but which can certainly put a smile on your face is the BMW X3 M40i. This is the most powerful version of the range behind the all-powerful BMW X3 M, and it has a 360 CV inline six-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive and first-class performance: 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
All this while saving €7,000 compared with the price of the Tesla Model Y, since the starting price of this model is €75,150. So these are our alternatives to the upcoming compact SUV from Elon Musk’s company; now it’s up to you to decide which one you go for.
