Just after the first month of 2022 ended, registration figures are not as positive as we would like, as a total of 42,377 passenger cars and SUVs were registered, representing growth of only 1% compared with the same month of the previous year. A month that, let us remember, was marked by the historic snowfall Filomena.

With these figures, this past January 2022 becomes the second-worst historical figure since 2000 in terms of registrations. A clear sign of the impact of the crisis caused by the pandemic, the shortage of microchips and the lack of vehicles at dealerships.

More electrified vehicles

However, not all the data is negative, since during this month of January, a total of 19,845 electrified vehicles were delivered, including hybrids and gas-powered cars, which represents an increase of 57.8% compared with January 2021, a “historic and especially relevant figure given the negative economic situation we are going through,” as declared by José López-Tafall, director general of ANFAC.

Without straying further from the topic, let us begin with the ranking of the ten best-selling vehicles over the month of January, where Toyota has broken its market share record with 12.4% thanks to its more than 5,300 registrations.

Leading the table

At the top of the list we find the Toyota Corolla with 1,613 registrations, closely followed by its SUV sibling, the Toyota C-HR, of which a total of 1,420 units have been sold.

Behind the Japanese duo is the popular Dacia Sandero, which is already a classic in these best-selling car lists thanks to its excellent value for money, and of which 1,217 units were registered.

In fourth and fifth place we again find two models from the same brand, namely the Peugeot 2008 and its compact sibling, the Peugeot 208, with 1,196 and 1,024 units sold respectively.

Mid-table

Starting with the second row, we again find another Toyota, specifically the Toyota Yaris Cross, of which we have already published a road test sharing our impressions, and which is gradually climbing positions in this top 10 with 1,003 units registered during January.

In seventh place we have the only German representative on the list, the Volkswagen T-ROC, of which 915 units were sold, and behind it is the Hyundai Tucson, the second best-selling vehicle of 2021, of which 884 units were sold.

Toward the end of the list, we find the veteran Kia Sportage with 853 units registered and the Peugeot 3008 with 838 units.
