This is how Continental's new safety monitor works
Continental has stepped up its technological commitment in order to increase passenger safety.

Automotive technology never ceases to amaze us, and more and more companies are investing in developing systems capable of saving passengers’ lives. Now it is the turn of Continental, which has developed a series of new safety systems. They will be presented at the Munich Motor Show in the coming days, and we are confident they will revolutionise the market.
It is a safety monitor that works before a collision, an airbag control valve and an impact sensor in the battery. This innovative Continental pre-collision safety monitor can combine monitoring of the surrounding environment and the cabin to “adapt the airbag deployment strategy more closely to the situation, the occupants and their position”.

These are Continental’s new safety systems
These new systems use data obtained through sensors distributed throughout the car. At the next Munich Motor Show, the airbag control valve will be presented. This will allow the airbags to inflate much earlier and protect occupants in an optimal way. This system is still under development.
This technology can prevent the airbags from deploying all at once, making the deployment more controlled. Continental has added that “the airbag could soften exactly at the moment of impact, reducing the rebound effect”.

Another system to note, which will also be presented at the Munich Motor Show, is battery impact detection. The manufacturer has assured that, using contact detection sensors called CoSSy, a contact sensor system that works in a similar way to the pedestrian protection system, minor damage to the battery can be detected immediately. Continental will integrate this function and plans to equip it to detect possible acts of vandalism and monitor road conditions. These systems are still in development, but we expect to see them applied in production vehicles in the coming years.
