The return of the BMW Series 8 has been one of the biggest bombshells of recent weeks. Its attractive, sporty design makes it one of the great promises of the market and a model that keeps the hallmarks of its predecessor.

The Series 8 Concept was unveiled last week at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in coupé configuration, but could BMW launch a convertible version in the future?

Logic suggests that producing a BMW Series 8 Cabrio in the future is very likely. Thanks to designer X-Tomi Design we can get an idea of what the model would look like in that configuration.

It should be remembered that the BMW 6 Series, the range prior to the 8 Series, is offered in both coupé and convertible (and Gran Coupé) body styles. The German firm’s 2 Series and 4 Series also offer a convertible version. Furthermore, in the coming months BMW could launch the i8 Spyder, the convertible version of its most sporty electric model.

This rendering of the BMW Series 8 may not offer a silhouette as refined as the coupé version, but if carried out, the Munich firm would offer a rival for models such as the Mercedes SL, S-Class Cabrio or the Aston Martin DB11 Volante.

In addition to the convertible version of the BMW Series 8 Cabrio, designer X-Tomi Design has gone further with the sporty luxury saloon and created a variant shooting brake that heads this article. It is undoubtedly one of the most practical body styles, one that has also been used by some Ferrari models such as the FF or the GTC Lusso.

However, everything suggests that the practical option for BMW with the 8 Series would be the four-door Gran Coupé version, a variant used on the current 6 Series.
