This is how the new Volkswagen Jetta GLI we will never see in Europe could look

Volkswagen has been developing a sporty version of the Jetta bearing the GLI badge for years, and it has been reimagined by X-Tomi Design.

The compact sports segment has made room for another very close one, that of saloons derived from them with a clearly radical character. The Volkswagen Golf has always been known for offering a saloon variant called Jetta. The latest news the German firm released about this model was that it would only be sold in the United States, as would its sportier variant identified by the GLI name. Although Volkswagen has no plans to offer this model in Europe for the time being, we have been left wanting more after this render created by X-Tomi Design.

The Volkswagen Jetta GLI has always been presented as the most radical variant, inheriting the mechanicals of its compact counterpart, the Golf GTI. In this way, the German firm has ensured over the last few years that it covers the needs of customers looking for a vehicle that is sporty as well as practical, and everything suggests that we will see the next generation in 2019 alongside the new Volkswagen Golf.

Meanwhile, X-Tomi Design has taken it upon itself to give us a preview of an interpretation of the final look of the Jetta GLI. This render designer not only recreates real variants that have yet to reach the market, such as the Audi RS Q3, but also brings to life vehicles that will probably never see the light of day, yet which carry a high level of realism and detail.

In the case of the sporty variant of the German saloon, we find a design based on the standard Jetta. Thanks to the existence of this model, it is much easier to get an idea of the final look of the GLI, which will not only have a more attractive and sporty appearance, but also tuning worthy of the name it carries.

X-Tomi Design offers us the typical features of Volkswagen’s sporty models, which are based on the Golf GTI. With this premise, the hypothetical Jetta GLI adopts the characteristic red stripe, a front bumper accentuated by air intakes, and specific wheels for this version that also appear on the Golf GTI. As for the mechanicals, we can assume that the engine powering the Jetta GLI will be the already known 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder, capable of generating a minimum of 230 CV, a figure that rises to 245 CV in the Performance version.

Either way, Volkswagen is in the midst of developing this spicy version of the Jetta, which will liven up American roads. Meanwhile, here in Europe we will have to restrain our desire to cross the pond to get a Jetta GLI, a model that could also give rise to an R variant with more power and an even sportier spirit.
