This is the Luxeed saloon, the new Chinese brand from Chery and Huawei set to take on the Tesla Model 3

Rivals keep appearing for the Tesla Model 3, the best-selling electric car last year. Now two giants are joining forces to launch a promising new brand. It’s called Luxeed, and it is the result of the partnership between Chery and Huawei.

For now there is very little information about the new brand and its first model, a saloon known internally as the EH3, which one of Huawei’s executives has “unveiled” by sharing this first official image on social media. A car that, without a doubt, passes this first test, that of design, with a good grade.

What the Luxeed EH3 offers in terms of technology remains to be seen, though the outlook is promising. Chery has the broadest “parts bin” to choose from, and if it ends up using the platform of the current vehicles from Chery’s premium sub-brand, such as the Exeed Sterra, we would be talking about a car with the latest propulsion systems and driver assistance. It could reach 700 km of range thanks to a battery pack from CATL. And the LiDAR sensor fitted to that bump you can see on the roof would be the main component, alongside more than 10 high-definition video cameras and as many ultrasonic radars, providing advanced autonomous driving capability through the ADS 2.0 intelligent driving system developed by Huawei.

It also seems confirmed that the Luxeed saloon, which could be presented at the Chengdu Motor Show on 25 August, will be the first vehicle to use Huawei’s recently launched HarmonyOS 4 software. And that its price will be lower than that of the Tesla Model 3. Will Tesla strike back by cutting the price of its electric saloon again? Without doubt, things are getting very exciting.
