ADAS systems: where and how to recalibrate them?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems have become indispensable in all models manufactured since 2022, so we explain how they work and how you can keep them in good condition.

Proper inspection and maintenance of the radars and cameras in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as blind spot detectors, adaptive cruise control or pedestrian detection and autonomous emergency braking, has become very important when driving. Since July of last year, 2022, all cars that are type-approved must come fitted as standard with certain ADAS systems.

Therefore, whenever we carry out a mechanical intervention on our car that may affect the ADAS systems, such as work on the chassis like wheel alignment or tuning; windscreen replacement; or work on the ECUs (Engine Control Units) or DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing) sensors, we must recalibrate them again, where, under normal circumstances, they are aligned according to the geometric driving axis.

Tesla is added to the Carglass catalogue

Now, due to the integration of ADAS in almost all new models, Carglass® Spain has officially announced the inclusion of Tesla in its range of serviced brands. This strategic expansion allows Carglass® Spain to proudly state that it now offers coverage for 100% of the car brands and models available on the Spanish market. This development represents an important milestone in the pursuit of providing a comprehensive service to motorists across the country.

The collaboration between Carglass® Spain and Tesla is the result of a joint effort on many fronts. From Operations to Marketing, all departments have united their efforts to ensure that Tesla owners can benefit from the services of repair, windscreen replacement and ADAS recalibration offered by Carglass® Spain. This achievement was led by the Technical Training Team, headed by Xavier Martínez, who plays a crucial role as “Head of Technical Training & Business Efficiencies“.

Xavier Martínez highlights: “At Carglass, we have Belron® Technical, the research and development department of the Belron Group, which focuses on all aspects related to windscreen installation and ADAS recalibration. We consider it a good option to have them on board, since the Belron Group has carried out more than one million calibrations worldwide.”

Already available at any Carglass centre

The incorporation of Tesla vehicles into Carglass® Spain’s portfolio is being carried out in phases. Initially, Tesla vehicles will be serviced at ten strategic centres spread across the entire Iberian Peninsula, with Madrid (3 centres), Barcelona (2 centres), Alicante, Málaga, Pamplona, Seville and Valencia leading this first stage. From 12 September, the second phase will be implemented, with another ten centres coming into operation in places such as Asturias, Girona, Granada, A Coruña, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Tarragona, Toledo, Valladolid and Zaragoza.

Gabriela Pueyo, managing director of Carglass® Spain, underlines the constant focus on customer satisfaction that has driven the brand for more than two decades. “Our goal is to provide the highest quality service, minimising as much as possible the time the customer spends in the process and giving them exceptional attention at every step.” This commitment has translated into tangible results, such as the record NPS (Net Promoter Score), a metric that measures the likelihood of a customer recommending the service to friends or family, reaching an impressive 85.2% in 2021.
