The Guardia Civil and the Directorate-General for Traffic usually use their social media profiles to inform and raise awareness among drivers about how to act correctly on the road. Today it is the turn of the Guardia Civil, which has posted a tweet explaining how to proceed when faced with a traffic jam caused by a road accident. It is a simple gesture that can save many lives.

This is the tweet the Guardia Civil has published, which carries the following message: “Driver, this is important! Did you know that a simple gesture can save lives? When you find yourself in a traffic jam caused by an accident, always leave the central lane free so that emergency vehicles can get through. Easy, right?”

With the recent end of the State of Alarm and the return of freedom of movement, traffic jams on the road can once again occur quite frequently. All of this unfortunately makes rear-end collisions more common. Whether because of the reason or because a previous accident has caused the jam, you should move to the side and leave free space in the central part of the road.

This is not something that can be done at the last moment, because depending on the severity of the accident, one or more basic ambulances, one or more mobile ICU units and even some Rapid Intervention Vehicles, VIR, will have to reach the scene. As soon as you see a jam forming, try to move aside so that the deployment of assistance vehicles can arrive quickly and save many lives.

Remember to follow the Guardia Civil’s recommendation and keep one lane free in the centre. It is a very simple gesture that can save a great many lives.
