Tokyo Motor Show: Honda EV-N Concept

Honda is presenting a retro concept in Tokyo (shown alongside the retro motorcycle EV-Cub), which has won over the few journalists who have already seen it (among them those from Le Blog Auto). Basically, the Honda EV-N is a retro vehicle, but with an electric motor and lithium batteries, very minimalist, yet with a great deal of personality.

The EV-N is aimed at being a star, if it can ever be put into production. It draws on many classic cars, such as the Honda N360, a very famous kei car produced from 1967 to 1970. It also recalls the Honda Jazz/City of 1984. In short, a retro concept is nothing unusual these days; however, this is an electric car that applies retro solutions.

It is clear that the EV-N was conceived as a solution for urban transport. It even includes a U3-X Unicycle integrated into both doors, so that the car can be parked in a public car park and the single-wheel unicycle used as an even greener alternative to the EV-N itself. The people at Honda have confirmed their interest in electric vehicles for urban transport, whether with 2 or 4 wheels, or even with a single wheel (like the U3-X).

Inside, the EV-N was created with maximum simplicity in mind. The seat upholstery can be swapped for different designs, while the dashboard consists solely of the Hello system (Honda Electric Mobility Loop). This system provides a large amount of information about the battery’s status and several means of communicating with the outside world.

For lovers of retro design, this Honda will not go unnoticed. The taste for earlier designs, from very well-known cars, is something that has proven successful with consumers, often preferred over new designs.
