Toyota and Subaru join forces once again to develop a new platform for electric vehicles
Toyota and Subaru have joined forces once again to develop 100% electric vehicles, which will include saloons and an SUV.

Previous collaborations between Toyota and Subaru gave us two of the purest and most driver-focused cars of the last decade: the GT86 and the BRZ. However, the two Japanese brands have decided to team up again, this time to deliver something very different from their earlier partnership. This time, Toyota and Subaru have combined their strengths to develop a new platform designed to power electric vehicles, but there will also be a second one focused entirely on the design of an SUV that relies exclusively on this type of power source, which is becoming increasingly common.
There is no doubt that both Toyota and Subaru are strong in different areas, but pooling the knowledge of both companies will enable the creation of several highly capable vehicles for different environments. On the one hand, Toyota has years of experience in developing hybrid vehicles, a technology that is essential for working on electric cars. On the other, Subaru has always proven to be a reliable expert in all-wheel drive, a system that will provide a high level of safety to its future models.
It is true that Subaru is only beginning to take its first steps in electrification, but the growing popularity of electric vehicles has pushed both companies to accelerate the creation of a model in this segment. To offer a broader range, Toyota and Subaru will build several models based on the same underpinnings, and among them there will be an SUV.
The first platform will be intended for vehicles capable of housing a BEV battery, that is, medium and large-sized cars. With this premise, we can expect both compact cars and saloons running on electricity, but one of the major highlights will be the 100% electric SUV that will come from both companies,
which will be positioned in the C-segment.
For now, no details have been revealed about the mechanical specifications of these future models, but we can guess that the range of the largest ones could approach 500 km. In this way, both Subaru and Toyota would begin offering a series of models capable of covering urban journeys and tackling long trips without difficulty.
Following this agreement between the two brands,
Toyota will allocate its current resources for electric vehicle development to this project. Meanwhile, Subaru will be responsible not only for further enhancing the capabilities of these upcoming models, but also for ensuring off-road ability of the kind the Japanese company is known for in its vehicles.
