The plant that Toyota has in Poland has already begun producing a new engine that will be used in the second generation of the Aygo and in the recently refreshed Yaris. It is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine producing 68 CV of power, intended for the simplest versions of both models.

This powertrain will be manufactured in two versions. The more efficient is the ECO variant, which consumes only 3.8 litres per 100 km and produces emissions of 88 grams of CO2 per kilometre, and which will be fitted only to the Toyota Aygo.

To produce this new engine, the company has had to invest around 30 million euros and expand the plant, creating along the way 380 direct jobs by October, when the production line is at full operation.

This plant has been building engines for the Aygo since its first version, launched in 2007, and for the Yaris, alongside other models. On 17 April of this year, the Polish plant began shipping units to the Toyota Citroën Peugeot Automobile of Poland (TCPA) plant, where the Aygo, the Citroën C1 and the Peugeot 208 are being manufactured.

From July onwards, units will be shipped to the French plant, Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF), where the Toyota Yaris is assembled to be equipped with the new engine. In this way, both models will have more efficient engines that are kinder to the environment, consuming and polluting less than the current ones.

To celebrate the production of these first units, Toyota has donated an Aygo to an orphanage in the city of Wałbrzych, at an event attended by authorities and a group of children from the centre.
