Toyota presents the Land Cruiser FJ: the small off-roader we expect in Europe

We have been reading and hearing things for some time about what was going to be the small Land Cruiser that was due to arrive in 2025 and that was going to become one of the most functional off-road vehicles on the market. And the moment has come, because Toyota has finally presented the Land Cruiser FJ. It will arrive in several international markets in 2026, so now is the time to see it for the first time.

This model is a fairly similar copy of its bigger siblings, but it has a smaller size, more manageable and perfect for the European market, which needs more compact vehicles. But if you look closely, you will see a genuine Land Cruiser that has gone through a downsizing process.

Two different front fascias

At the front we find two different front fascias. One of them features round headlights, more traditional. The other is equipped with square-shaped daytime running lights, a more modern and up-to-date design. In both cases, they come with a very simple design grille with the TOYOTA lettering presiding over the front.

The side design shows angular, large-sized wheel arches. The lower cladding is very visible and gives it the off-road look it needs, to enhance its presence. The large rear pillar also gives it a powerful image, making it more striking and visible.

At the rear we can see a spare wheel, which takes up almost the entire tailgate and gives it the adventurous touch a vehicle of this type requires. The rear bumper, with its robust design, enhances that feeling, and the C-shaped lights make it more attractive. Toyota reported that both the front and rear bumpers can be easily removed, so they are simpler to replace if there is a collision and they get damaged.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ measures 4,475 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width and has a height of 1,960 mm. The wheelbase is 2,580 mm, which allows for good interior space.

Add-ons and accessories

Toyota wants this model to come with a wide range of accessories that allow it to adapt to any space and need. Models have been seen equipped with snorkels, running boards and other elements to tackle the most difficult terrain.

Inside there is a cabin carried over from the larger Land Cruiser, although adapted to the more compact size of this model. It will have an instrument display, and a screen for the infotainment system joins the ensemble alongside the controls for the climate system.

Engine

The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is equipped with a 2TR-FE four-cylinder 2.7-litre engine. This unit produces 163 CV and a maximum torque of 246 Nm. It is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox and a part-time four-wheel-drive system. A mild-hybrid engine may also be offered, but there are no details on this yet.

And, above all, this model will have the off-road capabilities of a Land Cruiser, so it will be as efficient as any other version of this model.
