Toyota unveils the FT-SE prototype, a fully electric two-seater sports car
Toyota has presented several models expected to reach the market by 2026, but without a doubt, this fully electric two-seater sports car promises to be one of the best launches

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has always been constantly striving for excellence through participation in competition, and the FT-Se prototype is yet another example of what is to come for the future of high-performance sports cars. Presented at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, its name comes from the English acronym “Sports car of the Electric Future” (FT-Se), and this two-seater promises to redefine driving enjoyment in electric models.
The adventure of the FT-Se, the “Sports car of the Electric Future”, begins here, but the brand promises that it will be a model in constant evolution through software updates and additional add-ons. With a height of just 1,220 mm and a width of 1,895 mm, its determined presence is highlighted by aggressive lines and an innovative front end that blends aerodynamics and energy efficiency with the elegance of classics. It also features a rear spoiler which, with its length of 4,380 mm, catches attention wherever it goes.

Inside, it has a next-generation cabin offering an immersive experience and intuitive controls. The instrument panel has been placed low to ensure maximum visibility for the driver. It also features knee pads with an innovative design that protect occupants from centrifugal forces, whether on the road or in the FT-Se’s natural habitat: the circuit.

The secret behind the FT-Se’s exceptional performance lies in its new-generation batteries, compact and with surprising energy density. These lightweight batteries, together with the reduced size and weight of key components such as the electric motor, transmission and air conditioning unit, open new possibilities for improving the characteristics of traditional sports cars. These advances not only multiply performance but also improve stability in corners and firmness under braking.

The future of Toyota
Focusing on Europe, Toyota plans to expand its range of battery electric vehicles to include six specific models by 2026. Alongside the already available bZ4X and the compact off-road prototype presented at last year’s event, the Japanese company has previewed two further additions to its line-up: the FT-3e, a prototype urban off-roader, and a sports crossover currently in development.
In addition, a new generation of batteries is in the process of being launched, led by a high-performance version. This battery, designed with a conventional structure but with significant innovations, aims to provide twice the range and reduce cost by 20% compared with the bZ4X. Adopting a bipolar shape and structure, it will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as its main material, a more economical choice. Toyota’s goal is to achieve a 20% increase in range and a 40% reduction in costs compared with the bZ4X benchmark.
