Valencia is trendy: two Chinese electric car manufacturers want to set up their plants there

The Chinese ambassador has visited Valencia and has assured that there are Chinese automotive brands considering locating in Valencia to produce EVs.

While European brands are closing plants in several countries, Chinese companies want to keep expanding into European territory. What they need is to set up factories that assemble electric vehicles in some country on our continent and thus get around the tariffs imposed on imports from the Asian country. And of course, to keep growing in our market.

Spain has been confirmed as one of the most attractive targets for Chinese companies, so there are many possibilities that several of those plants will be located in our country. And one of the territories that is attracting the most attention from Chinese manufacturers is Valencia.

A promising visit by the Chinese ambassador to Valencia

The Chinese ambassador to Spain, Yao Jing, visited Valencia and held a meeting with several Valencian businesspeople at the Chamber of Commerce. At this meeting he assured that there are several Chinese automotive brands considering setting up in Spain and opening their European headquarters in the country. And specifically, it seems that two of them are interested in doing so in the Valencian Community.

According to the ambassador, Valencia has several competitive advantages over other European regions, since it has land, but also a very competitive port and a broad base of labour that can be integrated into the electric vehicle manufacturing process.

The Chinese ambassador’s visit opens the door to investment from the Asian country in the Valencian Community, with a first point of contact with businesspeople and authorities. Some more data may be offered within a few months, and perhaps the news of the upcoming opening of one or several electric car plants by Chinese companies on Valencian territory. Or perhaps a battery manufacturing company.

It should be remembered that there is already a Chinese company, CATL, that is going to open a battery manufacturing plant next to the Stellantis factory in Figueruelas, so the path is already open. This could give a fairly interesting boost to Chinese interests in Spain and make our country a starting point for several electric models heading to the international market.
