Video: MC20 spotted testing at the Maserati circuit of Ferrari
The Maserati MC20 has visited the Ferrari circuit to fine-tune its setup and refine some of its details before production begins.
Maserati made it very clear after the announcement of the new Maserati MC20 that its relationship with Ferrari had not affected the development of this new offspring; in other words, it is homegrown. This was evident from the trident brand’s use of the Nettuno engine, the powerplant that brings the MC20 to life and was developed from scratch. However, the fact that the Prancing Horse people did not take part in the creation of the new supercar from Maserati does not mean they bear any grudges or that the relationship is strained; quite the opposite.
Irrefutable proof of this is the video we have today, where we can see two units of the MC20 running at full speed, and at ease, around the Fiorano circuit. Ferrari has handed its facilities over to Maserati so they can finish refining the details of their latest offspring, a model that still has room for improvement before production starts.
At first, we come across a Maserati MC20 completely uncovered but with clear signs that it was, and still is, a test mule. We can see this in the rear wheel arches, where a few remnants of camouflage remain, and in the way its driver brakes very hard, as if wanting to emphasise that aspect of the Italian supercar.

And we must not forget that the trident brand still has time to improve or perfect various elements of the MC20, such as the brakes. At the same time we can see a second unit, fully camouflaged and kept off the track, performing slides and sharp cornering, a clear sign that traction control or the differential is being put through its paces.
Tests of this kind are hardly far-fetched for a vehicle of the Maserati MC20‘s calibre, a model that is, after all, a supercar. Beneath its skin the Nettuno engine, a 3.0-litre V6, sits quietly, ready to deliver 630 CV and 700 Nm of torque, figures that must be tamed with great skill if things are not to get messy. For that, a meticulous and perfect setup is essential.

The Maserati MC20 promises to generate plenty of talk, both for its combustion variants that will soon reach the market and for its future electric version. It is true that the units we see today are being sharpened up, and they leave us eager to learn more about this new supercar.
