The Mazda3 Turbo is one of the most anticipated models of this year 2020, and today we bring you a video showing off its performance.

Some time ago, rumours began to point towards a possible Mazda3 MPS, the sporty version of the legendary Japanese compact that once had its place in the past. However, the Japanese brand denied these rumours, although there would indeed be a sporty version of the Mazda3. A few months ago, the company surprised the world with the Mazda3 Turbo, a variant that arrives to make life difficult for the Volkswagen Golf GTI and company, although not in Europe. Nevertheless, this does not stop us from drooling over the performance of the compact from Hiroshima, which it has shown off in this video.

And it is true that since the launch of the Mazda3 Turbo the brand has not made much fuss about its sporty compact. However, today we came across this video in which we can witness how long the new guerrilla Mazda takes to reach 100 km/h from a standstill, a time more than enough to take out all the hot hatchbacks that have been reigning in its absence.

Let us remember that the Japanese house has always stood out for being a brand with a great deal of personality, one that avoids following trends at all costs in order to focus on its own path. We see this same philosophy in the Mazda3 Turbo, a model that can be classed as a true wolf in sheep’s clothing. Apart from 18-inch wheels finished in black, matching wing mirrors, a more prominent double exhaust outlet and an expanded colour palette, we find no other differences compared with a conventional Mazda3.

However, what does change is its mechanical side, where an engine now sits that is quite different from those we know on the European market. We are dealing with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged capable of delivering 250 CV and 434 Nm of torque, although, yes, only if we use 93-octane petrol; otherwise the figures drop to 227 CV and 420 Nm.

But what happens when we put all this power down on the tarmac? Let us remember that the Mazda3 Turbo uses an all-wheel-drive system and a six-speed automatic gearbox to manage it. Thanks to this combination, and as this video demonstrates, the most performance-oriented version of the Japanese compact can cover 0 to 100 in just 5.7 seconds, a figure that puts some of its most direct rivals, such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI (road test), on the back foot.

Without a doubt, it is a shame that in Europe we are left wanting to get behind the wheel of this new Mazda3 Turbo. This variant is destined for the American market, where it expects to enjoy a warm reception like the rest of its range siblings.
