Organised by 26 partner magazines, including German publications such as Auto Bild and Bild am Sonntag, the Volante de Oro 2013 award was presented last night, one of the most prestigious awards in the German industry. The award is determined by the readers themselves and by non-expert judges, who decide the winners in each category.

Starting with the small and compact category, the award went to the Volkswagen Golf with 1,692 points. The Audi A3 saloon was the winner in the medium-sized vehicle class, with 1,743 points, while in the so-called luxury class, the winner was the S-Class from Mercedes-Benz.

The top prize in the SUV class went to the BMW X5 , and the first non-German car to win an award was the Jaguar F-Type, the best coupé of those selected by readers and the jury. In MPVs, we have the second non-German winner, the Citroën C4, in its five- and seven-seat versions. The “green car” award went to the recently launched BMW i3.

Among other awards, the best advertising campaign was one for the Volkswagen, called “The Golf. The car”. Peter Schreyer, CEO and chief design officer of Hyundai and Kia, was honoured for his special services to the automobile with the Honorary Golden Steering Wheel; despite now working for Korean brands, Schreyer previously worked for Audi and Volkswagen.
