Volkswagen announces a new car based on the Trinity project

The statements from the CEO of Volkswagen leave no room for doubt: Ralf Brandstatter’s team is already working on the replacement of the ID electric car family

Trinity, as a religious concept, brings together three key ideas. Trinity as the union of three elements into one. Trinity, as a project that gives rise to a new generation of electric cars reduced to a single name: Project Trinity.

Despite its mysticism and mysterious aura, information about what would be, in its simplest translation, the Trinity Project of the German brand is beginning to flow from the top management of Volkswagen.

A new generation of cars, the second after the ID family, distinct from the original and still in full bloom, which already has, apparently, a successor in the models that will come from this initiative as well as from the new platform on which they will be assembled.

Ralf Brandstätter

If the modular electric vehicle platform of the Volkswagen Group, known by its English acronym MEB, is the cradle of, among others, the ID family, the evolved modular platform, that is the MEB Evo, will enable the construction of new cars, the first of which Ralf Brandstätter, the brand’s chief executive, has spoken about to German media.

In fact, he has given what could be the keys on which the concept of this Trinity project may draw. In statements to a local outlet, the CEO of Volkswagen has described, at least, the first of the new-generation vehicles that will take over, at least technologically, from the IDs.

The key factors: price, architecture and technology

In Brandstätter’s words, the vehicle we will see in 2025 should have a price of around 35,000 euros, sit within the compact segment and measure over four metres in length.

Perhaps this description has reminded our seasoned readers of the promises or sketches of the Volkswagen ID.3 before it was officially presented.

Now comes what will probably be the defining factor between these cars of the future and those of the present: their technology.

Based on the group’s work on new solutions, anticipating the demands of tomorrow, the consortium already has its brands working towards a future where the Internet of Things, autonomous driving and electric mobility will be the fundamental pillars in the building and selling of cars.

This is what Audi already has on the table with its Artemis project and, judging by what Ralf Brandstätter has indicated, the Trinity Project could be the equivalent of Volkswagen with respect to that of its sister brand.

Either way, it is clear that the Volkswagen IDs will only be the pioneers of a complete portfolio of the company’s new era that is one hundred percent electric but that, once electromobility is introduced and established, the next step is the technological evolution or revolution that self-driving electric cars will bring, which, by all appearances, Volkswagen is already inevitably working on.
