Good news: Lancia is coming back thanks to Stellantis

The Stellantis Group has announced that it will take Lancia under its wing alongside 14 other brands, thus guaranteeing the revival of the iconic marque.

We all went into mourning when Lancia “disappeared” — and we put it in quotation marks because it is true that the Italian firm still sells the Ypsilon in its home country. However, the golden days of Lancia were buried long ago, leaving an iconic past represented by a poor present. But today we bring you good news thanks to Stellantis, a group formed by FCA and PSA which, in addition to sheltering several different brands, will also shelter Lancia, guaranteeing its complete and total resurrection.

For the moment, we have little information on this, but we know that the parent company has certain plans for the Italian marque. Indeed, besides having housed some of the most iconic sports cars in history during its glory days, Lancia was also noted for being an exclusive brand, a category Stellantis intends to give it once again.

With this premise, it is to be expected that, in addition to some sporty models, Lancia will be closely related to DS, the other PSA brand that represents luxury. In this way, we can expect a range of vehicles designed to cover every current segment, with electric, hybrid and pure combustion cars alike.

If we are right, it would not be far-fetched to expect the arrival of a new Lancia Delta which, in its most powerful versions, would use a PHEV mechanical system. It is also to be expected that an SUV will eventually appear courtesy of the brand, using as its starting point the imminent Alfa Romeo Tonale or the DS 7.

At the same time, Lancia could launch a executive saloon that would have much in common either with the Peugeot 508 and DS 9, or with the Alfa Romeo Giulia should it be given a somewhat sportier touch. Nor would it be surprising to see a renewed Ypsilon taking as its reference the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, thereby creating a third city car that could, on occasion, be fitted with a 100% electric powertrain.

Whatever the case, the most important thing is that Lancia will return, and very likely in grand style. In this way, Stellantis will manage to revive one of the most iconic brands of all time with an arsenal of modern vehicles that we hope will remain faithful to its past, its legacy and what the preceding models stood for.
