Volkswagen Caddy: the new generation arrives to serve you

This commercial vehicle model, which has sold three million units since its launch in 1978, presents its fifth generation, larger and more practical.

The new generation of the Volkswagen Caddy has arrived and is ready to serve us. The famous commercial vehicle reaches its fifth generation with some changes to offer professionals and users the best possible performance. To do so, the German brand has opted for the MQB platform, which provides more interior space.

In this new generation of the Volkswagen Caddy we find the ‘Kombi’, ‘Origin’, ‘Outdoor’ and ‘Life’ trims, in both short and long wheelbase, and as an urban delivery van in the ‘Cargo’ and ‘Cargo Maxi’ versions, which has a longer wheelbase. Joining these is the Volkswagen Caddy California, the camper version, which from this version may include a small kitchen, a panoramic sunroof and parking heating.

Better equipment and all-wheel drive

The new generation will also optionally include the possibility of enjoying 4MOTION all-wheel drive instead of the usual front-wheel drive. As for safety equipment, 19 driver assistance systems are included. Of these, five are completely new to the segment, so they represent an advance over the rest of the models from other brands.

Among these novelties we find Travel Assist, which does not act when the steering wheel detects that the driver is at the wheel, leaving all actions at their discretion. Another included element is Trailer Assist, which is available on other models such as the Crafter.

More space

The space offered by this new Volkswagen Caddy is greater than that of its predecessors, as I have already mentioned. The capacity ranges from the 3.1 cubic metres of the Caddy Cargo to the 3.7 cubic metres of the Caddy Cargo Maxi. The third row of the Kombi variants and the family MPV helps the seven occupants stay comfortable during the journey. Effective solutions for both the cargo models and the passenger transport models.

Engines

The TDI engines of the Volkswagen Caddy are fitted with a particulate filter that considerably reduces polluting emissions. In this case we find engines of 75, 102 and 120 CV. These engines can be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox.

In the case of the petrol engines, there is a 114 CV option and another adapted to use Natural Gas with a power of 130 CV. Later on, a plug-in hybrid version will arrive to meet buyers’ requirements.

Inside there are also several technological elements, such as the Digital Cockpit. The central screen is offered in different sizes: 6.5 inches, 8.25 inches or 10.0 inches. The physical controls have been redesigned and offer a more efficient and attractive look.
