Volkswagen defines the steps of its hybrid mobility

Volkswagen does not want to be left behind in the race against the clock to win dominance of the market for electric cars. They have now decided to set milestones along the way to carry out the market introduction of their vehicles powered without fossil fuel, starting with series production of their flagship model, the VW Golf. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of the VW Group:
Volkswagen will bring e-mobility into series production. In 2011, we will expand our test fleet with 500 Golfs with electric motors. A hybrid version of the Jetta will reach the US market in 2012. From 2013, production of the UP will begin. The goal is for us to become the leaders in the e-mobility market by 2018. We want to achieve a 3% share of the electric vehicle market within our model range
As the distances covered are already reaching 150 kilometres of range, the Group will carry out on-site studies in many areas of Europe, China and North America. One of the key steps on this route is the introduction of hybrid technology, using Geneva to showcase its new Touareg Hybrid.
In 2013 the E-UP, VW’s electric model, will be unveiled, just before the E-Golf and the E-Jetta, which will complete what must become the electric heart of the German group. Sooner than we expected, in just 8 years, VW intends to be the leader in electric vehicle production with its entire fleet integrated into this type of engine
