The German manufacturer is celebrating. This year marks the 40th anniversary of its segment B compact, the Polo, and, as could not be otherwise, Volkswagen has decided to commemorate this milestone with the launch of a special edition called Original. This special edition will be limited to 1,000 units, and all of them will be available with 5-door bodywork, a specific palette of exterior colours, and six combinations of engines and transmissions.

In 1975 Volkswagen launched the first generation of the Polo, and over the four decades since its birth it has sold more than 14 million units worldwide. In Germany, 1,000 lucky buyers will be able to get the Polo Original, the special edition that commemorates the 40th anniversary of its launch. What makes it so special is the diverse range of exterior colour options, including the Honey Orange Metallic shown in the image, a colour not available on any other model in the brand’s range.

Continuing with the exterior details, the Volkswagen Polo Original will feature body-coloured or black exterior housings and darkened rear lights, while the ‘Original’ badges have been added to the front wings as well as the door sills. The 16-inch Portago alloy wheels will be standard on this limited edition, which will also be equipped with front headlights featuring LED daytime running lights and a high-gloss black grille.

Once inside the cabin, the Volkswagen Polo Original will come with various details that set it apart from the rest of the range, such as aluminium pedals and black and orange check upholstery with leather side bolsters. The equipment list is quite generous for the Polo Original, highlighting the automatic digital climate control, the rear-view camera, and the front assist with city emergency braking, among others. As for pricing, it starts at 19,950 euros, representing a saving of 1,119 euros compared with an equivalently equipped standard model.
