Volkswagen prepares its strategic plan in three phases until 2030
Over the next decade, the Volkswagen Group has embarked on a path that aims to lead the industry with the launch of several hybrid and electric models, allowing it to become the industry benchmark and to have a base of 80 million active users

Volkswagen has been on everyone’s lips this past year due to a matter that has not sat well with it at all. We still remember dieselgate, but the German brand is determined to make us forget that issue. For this reason, Volkswagen has just announced the brand’s planning for the coming years, with the intention of relaunching the marque wherever necessary and setting a pace of commercialization that allows it to regain market share and, above all, image.
The plan has been designed to work in three stages, each of which will focus on one aspect of the business and strengthen one aspect of it. The first stage will begin right now and will last until 2020. In this first phase, the company wants to restructure its business and set new challenges. It is at this stage that they are beginning to develop electric mobility, with several models in the catalogue of the different brands that make up the Volkswagen Group.

In the second phase, which will begin after that date, this branch of the company will be strengthened, seeking to position itself at the forefront of production and profitability of electric mobility. Once the brand is actively working on the development and manufacturing of electric and hybrid vehicles, the final phase of Volkswagen’s strategic plan involves making the brand the benchmark for the rest of the industry.
In figures, this means the brand expects to have 80 million active customers worldwide by 2025. The goal for the next decade is to sell one million hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles every year, a target that today seems somewhat excessive, but that could be possible if the industry moves in that direction.

Another of the aspects that will form part of Volkswagen’s efforts to gain momentum in the race for industry leadership is the sale of products related to services for connected cars. This could bring the brand revenues of 1,000 million euros, which would come in very handy to clean up the Group’s accounts after the dieselgate affair.
Looking at regional plans, Volkswagen will focus in the United States on launching SUVs and limousines, two segments that are very popular in that country and that show steady growth. After establishing itself in that market, it will focus on launching electric and hybrid vehicles, with local manufacturing starting in 2021.
In China it will follow a similar path, while in markets such as South America, India and Russia it will focus on the budget range to continue offering its vehicles in these emerging markets. With this planning, Volkswagen will try to position itself as one of the most active brands in the global market. Or at least, it will try.
