Volkswagen Taigo, the compact SUV arriving from Brazil to reign in Europe
The German brand has prepared a European version of a model it sells in Latin America, adapted to the tastes of European drivers

SUV users in Latin America can enjoy a compact SUV under the Volkswagen umbrella called Nivus. Now the German brand has worked to adapt this model to European tastes, turning it into a car that drivers in our region will want to drive. The Volkswagen Taigo is ready to be marketed in Europe, and the Volkswagen plant in Navarre will be in charge of manufacturing it.
The Volkswagen Taigo is built on the MQB modular platform, which also serves as the basis for the Polo and the T-Cross. This model measures 4,266 mm in length, 1,757 mm in width and 1,494 mm in height. At the front, the LED headlights stand out and are fitted as standard. In the Style and R-Line trim levels, IQ.LIGHT Matrix LED headlights are fitted, which together with the LED daytime running lights offer a very attractive light signature, complemented by an LED strip in the central part of the grille.

Other changes this European version of the Nivus receives are the design of the bumper and the grille. Both play with the presence and image of the car. On the sides we find sharp lines, and the wheel arches have been enlarged to enhance the impression of robustness. At the rear, the spoiler has also been modified to be more functional and offer less air resistance.

As for the wheels, they are available in sizes ranging from 16 to 18 inches, depending on the equipment level chosen. Another feature worth highlighting is the boot size. Despite its coupé-like lines, it offers a capacity of 438 litres, more than enough for daily use.
Inside we find a multifunction steering wheel and a 9.2-inch multimedia screen. Optionally, touch controls for the Climatronic Touch air conditioning can be added. An interior designed to make driving easier and keep occupants comfortable.
Petrol engines
The Volkswagen Taigo will be available with three petrol engines. The first is a 1.0 TSI unit delivering 95 CV, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. It reaches a top speed of 183 km/h. This is followed by the same engine, but with 110 CV and a six-speed manual gearbox, although it can also be specified with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The range-topping version uses a 1.5 TSI engine delivering 150 CV, which allows the model to reach a top speed of 212 km/h.
Customisation and options
Among the options for the Volkswagen Taigo are two solid colours, five metallic paints and one pearl finish. You can also choose a Digital Cockpit with a 10.25-inch screen, a premium sound system and other possibilities that enhance the model’s offer. We do not yet know the final price, but we do know that production will begin shortly in Navarre and the first units will be available in our country in 2022.
